Blog Academia?

Blogging in academics is definitely incorporated, shown by this very pwr II class. I think most of my collegues share in the traditional definition of 'academy' as scholars, writers, aritists, etc. for advancing literature, and or science. It's exciting though, to be part of this generation with new ways of communicating our ideas -rough or refined. Technology has been the way in which we can connect on all different levels. This is why blogging, though I think mostly in the rough stages, has the possiblitiy for the academic world and journalism alike, if the source is credible or strikes a cord with the reader as truth, or helpful. What is a blog? It's what you make it. Hence, the good comes with the bad, and the coherent with crazy confusion. To my understanding, it is only by good chance to come upon what you're looking for -academically and then to trace back the source for validity if a specific purpose is in mind. But for less specific and scientific answers, a good sample of spasmodic but serious psychological issues arise as problems that people are facing today. In this way, we can foresee behavior possibly projected in the future. I first learned of blogging through this class and have liked the exposure to think about which way I may choose to use it. It definitely will depend on the activity, but I am still a bit nervous about posting my inner thoughts online for who ever to read. It is a matter of privacy, of purpose, of protecting the core of my unrationed identity (and quality to even make up words without scrutiny). I still feel like it's a great diary. That's just me. But maybe I'll take the plunge in a blogging belly flop or flight as I engage in my journey of academe.
I support the blogging prompts and writing in e-rhetoric as a non-intimidating way to get my feet wet in new technology in a free-reigning way.

wiki wacky

Though I see the 'fun' in websites that have the capablities to respond to peoples whimical definitions, I think it faulty to rely on them for fact. The mere opinions only reflect a cloudy view muddied by careless or even well meaning people who just don't cut it when it comes to reliability. Note that it's a "Faith-based Encyclopedia" ... I'm not one who doesn't believe in faith, but I feel that it is best to have faith coupled with understanding. Understanding is a ground to stand on. Though wiki is like a beach to stand on, it is a mixture of many different grains and it takes much time and energy to sift through the myriad parts to get anywhere or to not get stuck. History, Art, and Science are proofs where, over time sand particles conglomerate or have protruded into our perspectives under an impact greater than us, but in a way that can be universally visible. So, in the short life span of us internet surfers, will we in fact come to any purposeful or sparkling conclusions over wiki? (Other than the possible psych experiment and deductive observation of the process and information). My personal impression is that there is lacking purpose or prize in the pieces of -something- that is being demised.
Our definitons are being less defined and more a victim of gray...
Empowering the slightest wave to wash all tears and triumph away...

Or am I wrong, (God forbid a hypocrite) as I write in a blog, my impressions for the world-wide web-work of people to see... on a topic similar, in essence the same.... opinions based on opinions, impressions??

sandy beaches seem nice
but one would hope that theres something solid underlying to keep the sand sparkling in the sun.

wtFriend

wtf is a friend anyway in our socalled "friendster" world? some of the websites i browsed (linked to our pwr blog page) mentioned the internet and computers as an empowerment (pointedly for women) because of the 'anonymity'...then others relate this 'no longer underground media' (such as blogging and aiming) as forums for politics... "Rockin' the vote, man" -- but then other articles titled "Aimless Aim Addicts" and "Obsessive Internet Use" tend to bring up the question, What is it that we're representing anyway? Education?Journalism?ItSS communication?or/isolation`anonymity`triviality`trite-belittling`incohesive-psychological-reality making this huge world so small? -->Check this out: Small World (2004)
I liked actually being 'talked' to... though still through a computer, the visual and spoken word had an affect Pathos appeal arousing aggressive questions in your own mind. The guy plants effective facts and his credit is clearly seen in his disgust and nervous enthusiasum turn monologue and repugant appearance and stance.
So should the viewer take the side of the falsehood of such a 'friendster' truism? Should or can the viewer acknowlege this funny or furiating fact as separate from their real lives, their real friends, their real emotions that the screen of a computer can not surface?

"Let's Dance Dorothy... Put on your ReD Shoes;)"

view the presentation itself and LAUGH.
“… lol …” recaps what a joke the Gettysburg address would be on PowerPoint and in today’s lax language.

Our so-called fast and enlightening computers really slowed and undoubtedly scaled down the start of the address (along with the fragments following it) by a common degree of degradation and lack of definite impact when ‘Abe Lincoln’ put his presentation on the web.
The power in the point is lost without the atmosphere of the complete thought, link of cohesiveness, and stamp of essential components. PowerPoint calls for its speaker. It is the ‘hat’ but no ‘cowboy’ of the content. It then tends to be contrived only with the combination of those two conditions and therefore is subject to a temporary time period or recall of comprehension.
PowerPoint may be constructive as seen by first hand use in scientific research and figures. Abraham Lincoln’s speech presented on 11/19/1863 clearly was not of that nature. His articulate words worked to move the masses without the aid of mere ‘bulletizing’ meaning (lost in computer-generated memorizing) as projected onto a ppt screen.
Instead of using technology as a tool, too many cases today reveal we rather undo the traditions of intellect, intuition, and intimacy with an ongoing quest of an idea. So much originates and depends in the delivery, in the words, the speech, sequence, sentence structure, language circularly remaining in clear understanding. Simply viewing the slides of a ppt presentation is devoid of the full picture and more importantly purpose. It’s so common today though, it’s as though we let this incomplete, fragmented slide into a false and disillusioned sense. It’s as though we jump on a train because it is the fastest road to the Wizard, but it’s really speeding us to realize we are letting the train slide off track. Whilst all along, ruby-red and sparkling ideas are our own to ‘tap’ on the portal of our perspectives to presentations, for instance, but then to walk and carry yourself accordingly to the command that one calls Home.

'a little dab'll do you-

I could use some [snoozin'] too.............' some words from the honorable Jimmy Buffet to start off the knowledge of a nice necessity, (sleep) but it's hard when there's an abundant amout of work to do.
Task at hand:
"Reflect on 2 ideas you have for a research project for this course *e-rhetoric*. Remember that you should choose a topic related to digital culture or technology; see the research project page for ideas (Nogopormoi). Include links -ahhha! (oh ic the link button) for at to least one website related to each topic. At the end of your entry, write 2-3 sentences briefly identifying which topic you are most drawn to at this point and why.

  • mag/newspaper crosswords vs. 'crossectioning' of Words and creative antics. (Read like a headline--> "What Associations You Don't Make because of your own limitations on paper. -- SyburScreen interAction not a traditional Intermission. "https://www.stanford.edu/%7Esteener/readings/dibbell.pdf
  • pay attention to the part (page 3) where different antics are used for "ornamental, playful, or pervasive, and disturbing" are touching down with many users time in positive or negative ways.

Of course MUCH refinement is needed....... but that's the great benefit of computers. Always Neat --(technically, _->(i mean legibly).... CreAtivE and after revision, (COMePUMYELL gots tools to make this swirling incomprehensive blog complete, containing art and science>>i would think you'd be soulmate material if you could follow this smorgasbord: ((needing more gas physically, or less false lysergic energy)).....

Lastly, my treasure chest and it's tarnished rep.re.sent.hat.ion is my favorite -ruby research idea is all /(cocoonned)/ in an email just waiting to fly ! (wish i had a mask of a dream to brush the techni*cali's to SIt in valleys, and me, sipping the purity of uncensored u ninhibited serendipity and a finished spanlang paper2pgs in length, a good quality for COMPutER 'Quantities' -minus- 'wave of copacity'~,..

Hi Christine,
I have been fiddling around with this computer incredibly too unknown to me and it’s getting too late. I am having a terrible obtaining information from Envision for help. (When I click on it, it goes to a general Stanford page….And when I continue to try to find my way by searching in the Stanford Libraries and elsewhere (Google for Stanford etc) I continue to get no ch. 4/5 reading done. This is a bit frustrating since there might be topics that should steer me a completely ‘right’ way for e-rhetorics, instead of my own potential false impressions. But for now, I’ll rely on ideas that I think are interesting and have something to do with technology. (I could change my mind, but the topics of the past weren’t up my alley or setting off many sparks for a finale of a project I want to create).

A particularly interesting topic that I need the “yay or nay” on (cuz, tho I want to hit a home run that it’s out of this ball park, I don’t want to be chillin’ out in left field.;)
Is:
Whether I could research the uses of artificial intelligence (i.e. computers and technology) on different types of people (by social status perhaps?) and make a statement on the positive or negative effect on the mind individually and collectively; relatively and absolutely.
I know this is very broad and I’ll have to refine it to maybe a couple of specific argument………….but……………..what do you think?? ((Gup’s article would be one example or link to a negative response and effect on people)).

  • This topic is painted ruby per se because computers not new accessory tops!, and just like 0 calories, 'fake' sugar, and horse pills, (aka creo*teen (all teen should 'think') before their heart starts pounding excessively))) orNOt. Anyway, all those very random things have the commonality that they change the composition of US! Before we swallow too much of a good thing or get stuck in the matrix because of the wrong pill it would not do any ill to research (and also write a formal, desirable, linear paper... logical. text. black and white. no streams. to write, to dream.
  • To Sleep.

A first MUSE

First blog entry (required of all e-rhetoric students). For this first entry, you should simply write about your experience (or lack of experience) with blogs. Some questions that you might address include (but are not limited to): What are your preconceptions about blogs or people who keep blogs? What sort of blogs, if any, have you kept in the past? How do you feel blogs fit into your understanding of e-rhetoric? What blogs (if any) do you read on a regular basis? Why? Feel free to be as personal or formal as you wish in this entry.

I’m not going to lie, coming into this course, I had absolutely no idea about blogs, the invention of one or much less, if it was even a real word that people use apart from the 'Stanford world' where exclusive anachronisms to almost everything are made and are the norm. Anyhow… it sparked my interest to find out what blogs were all about. Basically in my mind it was more of a dogs translation of all the superfluous words we throw at him before we actually throw him the ball…. Blah, blah, blah…. bLog?? bInG!--What a sucker I am… Maybe I would have come closer to actually finding the 'bone' in the meaning of this blog if I had proceeded to write it as I just did: bLog… Log … duh…. O well.
So this is some sort of “log” we can resort to find out about random knowledge (such as what I have just related) is flying through our head and or record thoughts zooming through or crashing genius', dorks, cool cats, [purrr] pirates or simply stupendous Stanford students in Christine’s pwrII class...And expect a wave of change, excitement, energy, and let us pray positive progress. I like it. -And the fact of progress. --that isn't necessarily in a 'strong house' standing on the shore, but thousands upon thousands of sand swiriling swiftly to settle on some spectacular beach in sight of the sparkling sun. whoooooo forgive me, i digress......I was saying, if i'm not coming off outrightly insane... I find this forum fascinating to see a new way of expression- with little bounds. Is this called blogging?: ‘cuz who know’s where it will lead? … I can tell you at this point, I don’t know. I think I’m going to have to refine my thoughts a bit more if this isn’t just going to be for me, but for all*u*! (ahh bold is frightening to see on screen).
Yes, so I’m a bit anxious of how I as the author of this blog will be perceived/receieved because, unlike a direct bow and arrow, going from one person to the next (getting direct feedback either by the scream of the pointed puncture (if on target), or the rustle in the grass to “run away” as fast as you can if it’s a miss)…. I digress. But if you’re with me, my anxiety stems from an uncomfortable feeling of setting myself up for being a "target" so to speak, when someone’s mouse so innocently or maliciously points and clicks onto what we now call my blog (just newly registered and named 'jewelsparkle') for y'all to read, (if need be). I feel that with out face to face interaction, everyone will miss the mark and those 'bows' of curiosity will hit the wrong thing or kill!(ahh!) by unconscious or conscious criticizing. (Maybe I should have named my link "Sticks and Stones")...Because, personally, when there are no boundaries I am ecstatic to be ‘free’ but since in this limited life there always poses one or two or three...- to infinity(!) I am supple to write what ever I may please… without the knowledge to cater to one grave thing.
This leads to why blogging is sooo liberating, because I feel that greatness comes from creativity.
What a great inspiration.
